My thought for today: I've learned that there are no unimportant acts of kindness

There will always be rocks in the road ahead of us.

They will be stumbling blocks or stepping stones; it all depends on how we use them.
I hope you will see today how to use your stones.
 

I would like to help my students to learn who they are and what they want to be, so that they are no longer strangers to themselves

 

I believe that to help a student to become excited and fascinated about architecture and about his own talents and individuality is much more difficult than helping him to earn an advanced degree- and so much more noteworthy.

 MIND MAP    a tool for enhancing thinking and creativity

What is a Mind Map? 

A Mind Map is a graphic technique for representing ideas, using words, images, symbols and color. It was developed by Tony Buzan, president of the Brain Foundation, founder of The Brain Trust and creator of the concept of mental literacy. Mind Mapping is based on patterns found in natural architecture and research on how  humans think and use their minds. You don't have to be an artist to learn Mind Mapping - anybody can learn. This is a picture of the Glasgow School of Art, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
It is one of the most inspiring buildings I have ever seen, definitely worth a visit by any student of architecture.
You may ask what is so special, well Mackintosh creates space as where other architects put materials together and what is left may be some kind of restspace


 

Today's Inspiration: Have a look at all the Christmas cards that you received and find a person who really wrote something nice to you. I am sure this will cheer you up for today and it might even give you the idea to write something yourself to one of your friends. Not just a short one-liner but a message from your heart. Today I'll be flying back from Sweden where I had a great time. My suggestion if you want to get a clear head: Go for a nice long walk in the snow, temperatures about minus 15 degrees Celsius. Listen to the silence, hear the birds and feel nature running through your blood. Nature is after all the best source of inspiration, but you have to learn to be quiet inside in order to listen and see.

What great movies have influenced me most as a teacher? That would be 'Dead Poet's Society ' and off course 'Stand and deliver' Both films had a great impact because they show that challenge is the best drive that any teacher can give to his students.


Today I read once more the great novell Zen and the art of motorcyclemaintenance. This really is a 'must' for anybody who wants to be truly creative. The book shows how art and sience are related in a unique way. If you read it too, please drop us a line and tell us what you think of it.


 

If anybody asks me why on earth I want to be a teacher, it is because I do love to communicate with all sorts of people, challenging them to make the very best out of my own and their talents and opportunities.

Nadat de ariens.org website ongeveer 2 jaar heeft gedraaid en 20.000 bezoekers heeft gehad, lijkt het me tijd om een meer persoonlijke noot toe te voegen aan alle nuttige maar ook wat saaie informatie die hier te vinden is. Het is een uitdaging om steeds opnieuw te zoeken naar inspiratie en deze te delen met anderen. En het lijkt me een prima manier om nooit in slaap te vallen met een tevreden gevoel terwijl er weinig nieuws gebeurt. Ik hoop dat je hier wat vindt waar je vrolijk van wordt of waar je iets aan hebt. Alle reacties, positief en negatief zijn welkom.
